About Us

Our History

Founded in 1980 within a secluded Himalayan workshop, THE AREA inherits the six-century legacy of the Manzhong family – revered guardians of Tibet’s sacred incense-making art. Born where spiritual rituals meet mountain winds, we are storytellers of the plateau, committed to sharing its ancient soul with the modern world.

Guided by the philosophy that true sustainability honors both nature and culture, we craft every incense stick through ethical practices: ingredients are hand-harvested in harmony with Tibet’s seasons, while partnerships with local cooperatives ensure fair wages and women’s empowerment. With each purchase, you join our mission to safeguard endangered traditions – from preserving 14th-generation craftsmanship to funding heritage education in Himalayan villages.

From prayer flags dancing over snow peaks to your mindful spaces worldwide, THE AREA weaves Tibet’s spiritual essence into fragrant poetry. Breathe deeper. Connect truer. This is more than incense – it’s a bridge between timeless wisdom and conscious living.

The incense-making workers in the area are all from the local area, most of them are deaf-mute disabled people and elderly people in their 60s and 70s. Although their lives are difficult, they still love life and their hometown! Thank you especially for your support for the lives and employment of local villagers!

THE AREA dedicates 10% of profits to three key areas:

  1. Education Support - Funding village schools in Tibetan regions and vocational training programs for traditional crafts like incense-making, helping artisans transition from subsistence workshops to sustainable businesses.
  2. Healthcare Access - Partnering with local clinics to provide medical supplies and training, while documenting Tibetan herbal medicine practices.
  3. Cultural Preservation - Establishing raw material cultivation cooperatives to protect biodiversity.

Each initiative directly links to our product chain, ensuring authentic social impact through every purchase.
